Mermaids on the Radio making Waves on the Airwaves: Hire A Mermaid Featured on PropBiz Alive 90.5FM Radio

Mermaids on the radio Hire A Mermaid Australia Sydney

Ever thought you’d hear Mermaids on the radio as you drive home?

Hire A Mermaid was featured on Prop Biz Alive on 90.5FM 🎙️✨

We were the first guests of the year, kicking off 2026 by talking all things mermaid business, safety, and the realities behind the magic.

Stream our segment here: Hire A Mermaid episode #1 2026

Alive 90.5 FM, 2CCR 90.5 FM, Sydney, Australia | Free Internet Radio | TuneIn

During the segment, we shared some of the following:

How Hire A Mermaid Came About

Like many creative businesses, Hire A Mermaid began organically. What started as fun mermaid swims quickly grew into a business, driven by demand from curious beachgoers wanting a truly memorable experience for their events.

What People Don’t Always See

One of the biggest struggles we discussed on air is simply being understood as a service. Many people don’t realise that hiring a mermaid is an actual profession with qualifications, planning, and risk management behind it — or that mermaids cannot walk once they’re in tail 🧜‍♀️
Every booking requires careful consideration of access points, surfaces, safety support and transport.

What we do

During the segment, we explained the wide range of events Hire A Mermaid is booked for and how every appearance is tailored to suit the occasion.

For corporate events, our mermaids can provide meet-and-greet experiences, branded photo opportunities (especially effective when positioned near logos or promotional backdrops), and specialised custom activations such as mermaid statues, themed appearances, and advertising campaigns designed to capture attention and create shareable moments.

For parties and private events, we offer magical experiences including pool performances, surprise beach appearances, and even land-based parties featuring bubbles, crafts, and interactive activities — perfect for venues without water access.

Behind the Scenes: Logistics & Transport

Another eye-opening topic we discussed was transportation and logistics — an essential but often unseen part of mermaid entertainment. Mermaid tails are large, heavy, and delicate, requiring careful handling and transport. Getting performers, tails, safety equipment, and sometimes assistants to locations — whether pools, beaches, boats, or event venues — takes planning and coordination well before the mermaid ever appears.

We also explained that mermaids can’t simply walk into an event. To preserve the illusion and ensure safety, mermaids often need to “magically appear” by getting ready on site while guests are elsewhere. In some cases, performers may be wheelchaired or carefully carried into position, depending on the venue layout and access points. Every booking involves advance planning around access, surfaces, privacy, and timing to ensure a seamless and safe experience for both guests and performers.

Mermeets, Training & Safety

We spoke about mermeets (when mermaids meet up) and the importance of safety. That’s why we emphasised the importance of freediving training, breath control, rescue skills, and formal certifications.

We also discussed PADI Mermaid courses, which provide structured training for mermaids at all levels — from beginners to professionals — covering aquatic skills, underwater awareness, and safety protocols. These qualifications help ensure that what looks magical is also done responsibly.

Beach Shacks, Storage & Dream Waterfront Properties

On the radio segment, we shared our experiences visiting many of Sydney’s stunning waterfront homes and how these locations make for magical mermaid events. We also discussed how beach shacks, with their easy access and practical storage, could be ideal for housing equipment and tails while providing perfect settings for parties and surprises. And of course, we couldn’t help dreaming a little — waterfront homes like these would be absolutely incredible to live in, offering private water access, beautiful views, and that special connection to the water that makes mermaiding so enchanting.

Why This Conversation Matters

Hearing mermaids on the radio may seem odd, however, being invited onto Prop Biz Alive was a meaningful moment for us. It allowed us to educate listeners, challenge misconceptions, and show that behind every shimmering tail is a legitimate business built on skill, preparation, and passion.

We’re incredibly grateful to Prop Biz Alive 90.5FM for having us on and giving us the space to share our story. If this segment helped even one person learn more about mermaiding— and what it’s like being professional mermaids — then it was worth it.

Here’s to more conversations, more education, and making even bigger waves in 2026 💫
